Welcome to the Institute of Organic Chemistry

The Institute of Organic Chemistry, together with the Horst Luther Lecture Hall, is centrally located on the campus in close proximity to the physical chemistry institute, physics institute and the cafeteria. The first section of the institute was founded in 1967 by Prof. K. D. Gundermann. In the 70s an extension to the present size of the institute was constructed. The Institute of Organic Chemistry belongs to the Faculty of Natural and Material Sciences.

Research Groups

The main areas of research are widely structured by the various sections of the institute. The research areas range from organic material-chemistry, organoboron chemistry, transition metal chemistry and homogeneous catalysis to natural product chemistry. For structural elucidation of organic substances, there are e.g. a 400 MHz and 600 MHz NMR, various mass spectrometers, as well as other analytical equipment available.
