Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Andreas Schmidt

Andreas Schmidt, born in 1964 in Wuppertal (Germany), took his undergrade degree at the university of his hometown. He then graduated from the University of Bonn in 1989, and remained at the same institution for his PhD studying heterocycle synthesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. Heinrich Wamhoff. Then he moved to Greifswald to start his independent research career in 1993 and obtained his habilitation diploma in 2000 (Dr. rer. nat. habil.). Following postdoctoral research at Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) with Prof. Dr. Albert Padwa in 1999/2000 he returned to Germany where is currently working at Clausthal University of Technology as professor of organic biomaterials (apl. Prof). In 2005 and 2010 he was visiting professor at the universities of Greifswald (Germany) and Metz (France), respectively. In 2006 he gained the Thieme-Journal Award, and in 2009 he declined a W3 professorship at the University of Koblenz/Landau. Since 2011 he is the Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Natural and Materials Sciences of Clausthal University of Technology.
