Welcome to the Institute of Organic Chemistry
The Institute of Organic Chemistry, together with the Horst Luther Lecture Hall, is centrally located on the natural campus of the university in the vicinity of Physical Chemistry, Physics and the refectory. The first section of the institute was opened in 1967 by Prof. K. D. Gundermann. In the 1970s, the institute was extended to its current size. The Institute of Organic Chemistry is part of the Faculty of Natural and Material Sciences.
Working groups & research groups
The Institute's research focuses are broadly structured through the various working groups. These range from organic materials chemistry, organoboron chemistry, transition metal chemistry and homogeneous catalysis to natural product chemistry. For the structural elucidation of organic substances, the institute has a 400 MHz and 600 MHz NMR, various mass spectrometers and other analytical equipment at its disposal.
