Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Andreas Schmidt
Andreas Schmidt, born in Wuppertal (Germany) in 1964, completed his undergraduate studies at the university in his hometown. After obtaining his Vordiplom, he transferred to the University of Bonn, where he graduated with a diploma in 1989. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. Heinrich Wamhoff (university of Bonn), he earned his doctorate with summa cum laude honors in heterocyclic chemistry. He then moved to Greifswald to begin his independent research career in 1993 and earned his habilitation (Dr. rer. nat. habil.) in 2000. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) with Prof. Dr. Albert Padwa in 1999/2000, he returned to Germany, where he currently works as a professor of organic biomaterials at Clausthal University of Technology. In 2005 and 2010, he was a visiting professor at the Universities of Greifswald (Germany) and Metz (France). In 2006, he received the Thieme Journal Prize and declined a W3 professorship at the University of Koblenz/Landau in 2009. Since 2011, he has been Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Natural and Materials Sciences at Clausthal University of Technology.
